“The KINGDOM WORKS”

FOR THE RECORD.  Approximately 3pm today, June 18, 2018, Laurie Lea asked me, “How’s your project coming along?”  I said to Laurie Lea, “We’ll find out, in a court of law.”  (I think I might have told her, last time she and I spoke, that, I’m trying to become a photographer.)

When Laurie Lea asked me that question, Rocky was meeting with Patricia, in the small meeting room, near the entrance.  Alice and Peggy and another woman whom I’d never seen before were sitting in the lobby alcove.  The president or someone from a new organization here at the YWCA, something about Work, was moving into one of the offices on the lobby floor.

(Laurie Lea is the artist who painted the four Revelation paintings in the lobby, four paintings each with several panels including the prominent one with the bottom panel depicting blood.  She’s originally from the south.  Laurie Lea is not black, she’s white.  I do not know if she’s an occultist, but I think so.)

I do not know if this ladder is a Louisville brand ladder however Laurie Lee is not from Louisville; according to her website she’s from Atlanta.  I doubt that Laurie Lea a Mormon Danette as is Molly and possibly Rose, and Kelly in ECPAT office, and who on YWCA Brooklyn board? I do not yet know.

The KINGDOM WORKS are the two dimensional interpretation of the SACRED LIGHT series. There will be four variations of this theme: TRUE VINE, LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS, APOCALYPSE and one more to follow. As in all my work, light juxtaposes form: in these works a single vertical luminous form intersects the seven horizontal panels from top to bottom. The spiritual meets the earthly in a cross. Just as the number seven refers to perfection and completion, the number four refers to earth – four seasons, four elements, four directions etc.

SACRED LIGHT, YWCA Brooklyn Installation / glass & emulsions/ 4′ x 5″ x 3″
SACRED LIGHT
is a body of work originally conceived in three dimensions as an installation consisting of long vertical light-forms (electro luminescent strips) covered with clear broken glass and emulsions and suspended by monofilament. The interaction of light and form gives me a way of examining human existence both in the physical dimension of observable phenomena and in the spiritual (invisible, intangible) dimension. Broken and translucent materials such as glass, cover but do not obscure the light and refer to states of fragility, fragmentation, transformation and redemption. The fusion of broken forms and light becomes a metaphor for hope. The darker the world, the brighter the light. The prophet Isaiah said that “the light shines in the darkness but the darkness did not comprehend it.

Two minutes before Laurie Lea asked me that question, Louwinsky, the security officer, informed me that, no new tiles were installed in my room, because, the YWCA ran out of tiles and must order more tiles and when the tiles come in next week, my room will be retiled.  (I had asked Louwinsky if he would telephone Johnny to ask what time I could return to my room; I could not call because my cell phone needed to be charged.)  Why did nobody telephone me to let me know?  When Johnny told me Danny and Reynaldo would begin the flooring at 9am, did Johnny not know that the YWCA had no more tiles?  Who decided to play a joke on me?  I do not like practical jokes!

One and one half weeks ago I filled out a work request form, requesting new flooring for this room, at a cost of $100.  Last week Monday, June 11, 2018, Danny and Reynaldo knocked on my door; Danny asked me when would it be convenient for them to retile my floor.  I told them any day would be fine, and then I suggested next Monday, which is today, June 18, 2018.  Danny and Reynaldo told me they would be here at 8am this morning, and for me to have as few things on the floor as possible.

Friday I thought about telephoning Johnny to request to reschedule the floor tiling, I’m still not feeling well, but decided not to.

I got up at approximately 6am, and, though not feeling well, I packed my belongings (mostly books in small receptacles on the floor, and my file folders) and piled almost everything atop the bed, and I cleaned the floor.  After I left my room I remembered that something had happened when my room was supposed to be painted, and when I came back to my room, the room was not painted, I cannot remember exactly why.  I had spent quite a bit of time lifting heavy boxes of books and packing my things, only to unpack and have to repack when another appointment was made for the room painting.   It occurred to be that I should telephone to confirm that Danny and Reynaldo would actually retile the floor today.  I sat in the lobby alcove and called Johnny.  Just as I was about to press his extension as prompted by the YWCA Brooklyn recording, Johnny entered the lobby.

Johnny confirmed that the my room would be retiled today; that Danny and Reynaldo would start the work at 9am.

When I went outside (to go to Starbucks or somewhere to work on my computer, posting information here at my website), a motorcyclist drove by.  He was wearing a shirt like Rocky’s plaid shirt, similar to Victoria’s plaid dress, similar to Katia’s plaid shirt, similar to my 1970s plaid shirt:

After my comment to Laurie Lea, I did not enter the elevator with her.  I waited for the next elevator.  When the elevator reached the 11th floor, I remembered that I’d left my phone in the lobby alcove, plugged into an outlet. I went back to the lobby, got my phone, then went back to the elevator, and when the elevator door opened on the 11th floor I took a picture of the items showcased on the ledge in the elevator vestibule:

When I opened the door to my room, the light was on.  Someone, while in my room, left the light on.  The floor looks really dirty but it’s not.  Over a period of one year or so, 2012 or so, someone while in my room, applied some sort of film on the floor, some sort of glue.  The first several months the floor was very sticky.  I tried scraping the floor, with not much success.  I cleaned the floor before I left my room this morning, and I cleaned the floor again at approximately 5pm because the floor was much dirtier when I came back, than it was when I cleaned it this morning; someone while in this room sprinkled dirt and bits of debris including hair, on the floor, and some tiny beads, Selica Gel.
